Fishbone Diagram

Diagram used to categorize causes linked to a special event/defect. It supports the engineering design and development process as well as the problem-solving process by reviewing the different categories one by one.

The categories include:

People: Anyone involved with the process.

Methods: How the process is performed (policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and laws).

Machines: Equipment, tools.

Materials: Raw materials, parts, components, lubricants, cleaner.

Measurements: Gauges/jigs, measurement devices, and methods.

Environment: Facility, location, temperature, air quality.
