Make to Order (MTO)

The concept of producing a part based on a customer order. Owing to high flexibility and direct reaction to customer orders, stock size (value, surface) is minimized. Die manufacturing lead time is long. MTO stands in contrast to stock production, or build to stock (BTS). Production typically includes a combination of MTO and BTS. Based on the delivery conditions from the supplier, raw materials and subcomponents are produced following build to stock, while final products according the customer demands follow make to order.
