Batch Building Box
As part of the kanban system, the batch building box is a visual scheduling and information tool to collect kanban cards and to provide batches of upcoming production runs. In the case of producing different references at one production line, the changeover needs to be planned and carried out. In order to know how many parts of each reference and in which sequence, a batch building box is designed and placed at each line. It is a small cabinet with a grid of separations to create rectangular slots or receptacles. The columns are specific part numbers; the lines, and especially the amount of lines, define the batch size, the production slot per reference. The amount of lines (batch size) does not need to be the same for each reference. Slots could be closed. Once a whole column is full, all kanban cards are taken out of the batch building box and moved to the waiting queue of the line.
